This year has been jam-packed with EV charger installations in Newquay and across Cornwall. We’ve been installing EV chargers for the last decade, and we’re seeing them become more popular than ever. By 2022, there were almost 670,000 electric cars on the road, accounting for 2% of all cars in the UK, and as of 2026, there are well over 2 million. This means that over 6% of cars on UK roads are now fully electric.
At Wake Electrical, we are fully qualified in EV charger installation and are NAPIT, TrustMark and MCS-approved installers. We offer installation for residential properties in Newquay, Falmouth, Truro, Wadebridge, and beyond, as well as car parks and commercial properties in Cornwall.
With so much growth in electric cars and the increased demand for EV chargers in Cornwall, we’ve been very busy! Wondering what we’ve been up to recently? Here’s a look at some of our latest Newquay installs.

Ricki shares his trickiest gig!
“About a year ago, I had a Zappi EV installation in a garage, and the only way to get the cable from the fuse box to the garage was under the floorboards. Now this void area was deep enough to lie down in but not deep enough to crawl, and the distance between the fuse box and garage was 25 metres. We couldn’t use any tools to get the cable across, so the only way was to lie face down and shimmy across the cold, wet ground with barely any room to lift your face from the dirt. Got to say, we were glad to see that one commissioned!” – Ricki, owner of Wake Electrical.
Top tip for beautiful installs.
If the garden or driveway is around bushes, shrubs or greenery, then we’d recommend opting for a wooden sleeper post to help the charger blend into the natural environment. The alternatives are metal posts, and these tend not to be as seamless for a residential installation. You can also choose a brand that offers exchangeable covers in a variety of colours, like the Easee EV chargers.

Let’s get technical.
Chargers are now type 2 sockets, so most will work with all electric vehicles. EV chargers come in tethered or untethered versions (with or without a charging socket attached with a lead); the tethered come commonly in 5 and 8 metres. Some come with the ability to add back office support. This means you can set up the use of an app to control payment for use, which is very good for landlords who want to charge Airbnb guests.
Our go-to brands for residential installations include: Ohme, Zappi, Zaptec, Andersen, Hypervolt, Tesla and Cord. If you are installing solar and battery, then you will want to opt for the same brand of battery (Tesla and Sigenergy for example).
It’s important to know if an EV charger offers power management. This way the charger will read the power usage from the house and charge accordingly so the property is not overloaded. If you’re overwhelmed by choice, we can talk through your setup and preferences and help to narrow it down to find the right brand for you.
Don’t miss the latest Government Grant for landlords.
Right now there’s a ULEV grant available from the government for eligible residential landlords, renters and flat owners with off-street parking. If you think you may be a candidate for this, please get in touch, and we can assist with ULEV grant applications for eligible clients.
